HANDSHADOWS, A NEW KIND OF MAGIC
Long gone are the days of the glittery suits and rabbits coming out of hats! Following the example of the new circus, the new magic has been considered as a full artistic movement over the last decade and many creators now include this language in their universe. The key term of this incursion of magic in live entertainment is illusion.
The result make up unforgettable pictures such as the body of a dancer struggling with the giant shadow of Philippe’s fingers in Sombrero, a piece by Philippe Decouflé. After a collaboration for the show named Kà, a creation for the Cirque du Soleil, Robert Lepage also suggested to Philippe Beau to create sequences of shadows in the opera The Nightingale and other fables by Stravinsky.
